Britney Spears Weds Sam Asghari
Oops, she did it again. It’s official: Sam Asghari and Britney Spears are husband and wife. The two began dating after meeting on the set of Britney’s “Slumber Party” video in 2016. On September 12, 2021, the couple revealed their engagement to the world. Just two months later, Britney was released from her conservatorship after nearly 14 years. On April 11, 2022, Britney announced she and Sam were expecting their first child together. A month later the couple announced her miscarriage. The couple experienced ups and downs before their big day, so it is no surprise that drama ensued on the actual wedding day.
Ex-Husband Crashes Wedding
Only hours before the wedding was set to begin, Jason Alexander, Britney’s ex-husband, was arrested after having entered the grounds of the Los Angeles wedding venue. Jason was charged with trespassing, vandalism, and battery after his attempt to crash the wedding. He even filmed himself as he arrived at the venue and proceeded to film himself crashing the wedding. Jason and Britney wed in 2004 after an impromptu Las Vegas ceremony, and the union was annulled just 55 hours later. It appeared the two were still amicable as Jason was spotted attending a #FreeBritney protest in Los Angeles amid her conservatorship battle. However, Jason can be heard in his video stating he is crashing the wedding because “…nobody is here except Sam.” Neither Britney’s sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, nor her parents, were invited to the wedding.
Just recently, Britney obtained a three-year restraining order against Jason. According to sources, the court issued a no contact protective order that expires June 13, 2025. The charges filed against Jason were filed with the Ventura County courthouse clerk and include one felony charge for stalking, one misdemeanor charge for trespass and refusing to leave, one misdemeanor charge for vandalism damage, and one misdemeanor charge for battery. Jason pled not guilty to the charges and his bail was set at $100,000.
Ceremony Goes Forward
Despite the unexpected events that left Britney “a bit shaken up,” she pressed forward with the ceremony and reception. Although her family was noticeably absent from the crowd, Madonna, Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore, and Selena Gomez each received a coveted invite and made their appearances. According to an E! News article, Paris Hilton turned down a DJ gig at President Biden’s Summit of Americas dinner to attend the wedding.
Living Happily Ever After
Britney and Sam seem to be forging ahead in their happily ever after. Although there are a few naysayers, the couple certainly has an abundance of support from friends.
