The Triad offers many celebrations and fantastic events for you and your family to enjoy Memorial Day weekend locally.
Memorial Day Weekend Kickoff Concert: Nothing could be finer than enjoying some toe-tapping, patriotic music to put you in the summer time mood. The City of High Point is hosting the Army Ground Forces Band, which includes 56 soldier-musicians. This free concert is at the Oak Hollow Festival Park in High Point, NC.
NC Wine Festival: For those looking for more adult-only fun or a fun ladies afternoon out, the North Carolina Wine Festival at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons will be the perfect event. On May 28 there will be live music, exhibitors selling local goods, products, and informational services. And yes, wine tasting! Bring your chairs and sit, sip and stay for a while!

Cobblestone Farmers Market: If you are planning on having a cookout for the Memorial Day weekend, take your kids to the Old Salem Museum & Gardens the day before and see how the 200-year-old tradition began. Pick up some fresh veggies, fruit, eggs, and of course homemade breads and Moravian goodies. Your backyard cookout will be the tastiest and freshest one in the Triad!
Take a Walk in the Park: Take some time with your kids, your family or even by yourself in one of the many parks offered throughout the Triad. From beautiful scenery parks like Bicentennial Park in Greensboro or a nice hike on wooded trails like Washington Park in Winston-Salem, you will be sure to find a spot that will please anyone. Also, plan a visit to the Carolina Field of Honor at Triad Park to remember our fallen soldiers from the Triad. Many of the parks also offer picnic tables and shelters so be sure to bring a picnic lunch!
Memorial Day is always the official start of the summer so enjoy it with friends and family. Make a bucket list of summer activities with your kids during the time off, so you can plan ahead. Ask them what they want to get into this summer so they have something to look forward to. Also, take a moment a remember those who sacrificed their lives in the call of duty. The Triad has many veterans who have lost brothers and sisters they served with during times of war; ask them to share memories of fallen soldiers. Memories of these brave men and women live on through stories of remembrance, so reach out and hear stories of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
